Choosng a therapist or counsellor

There are hundreds of different therapies and counselling models - including CBT, person centred counselling, humanistic, therapy, integrative and holistic counselling, psycho dynamic therapy, behaviours therapy, hypnotherapy and so on... it can be very confusing particularly if you are vulnerable.and seeking help. Their are associations set up to register therapist and counselling such as BACP etc, these are then accredited under the PSA, Professional Standards Agency which means the Institute monitors their professional conduct and continuing personal development. They have agreed to abide by its ethics policy, its complaints procedure and that they have full public liability insurance. Human Givens practitioners are regulated under the PSA and under NICE Guidelines.

Human Givens practitioners do not waste time just endlessly listening to you or attempting to dredge up real or imagined miserable memories form the past since research shows this trends to confuse and upset vulnerable people.

Nor do the deal in time-wasting prolonged voyages of "self-discovery" instead they offer practical help that deals with mental and emotional distress in the hear and now,

An effective psychotherapist or counsellor should:

  • know how to build rapport quickly with distressed people

  • understands depression and how to lift it

  • helps immediately with anxiety problems including trauma or fear related symptoms

  • is prepared to give advice if needed or asked for

  • will not use jargon or "psychobabble" or tell you that counselling or psychotherapy has to be "painful"

  • will not dwell on the past but will be supportive when difficult feelings emerge, but will not encourage people to get emotional beyond the normal need to "let go of feelings"

  • will help you draw and build on your own resources (which may prove greater than you thought)

  • may teach you to relax deeply

  • may ask you to do things between sessions,

  • will take as few sessions as possible

  • will increase your self confidence and independence and ensure you feel better from the first session

What does it cost? Prices can vary however however my change is £50 per one half our session. HG practitioners work with a minimum of sessions helping people return to enjoying their life quickly

Where can I find out more? contact me via phone, email, text or Facebook messenger I will get back to you same day.

When are sessions available and where? I will work with you on a suitable time, evenings appointment are available and weekends also. I understand it can be difficult to get "time out" to evaluate your thoughts and worries. I work out of Ballybot House, Newry which has ample car parking and is near the bus station. I am willing to travel to meet you as all is needed is a quite private room.
